1. 1

A ringlet is a long curl of hair that hangs down, like a little ring made of hair. People often talk about ringlets on children, or in old pictures of girls with long curls by their ears. You can have one ringlet or a whole head of them. The hair is not just a bit wavy: a ringlet is a tight, round curl. Though actually, not every curl is a ringlet. A short, messy curl is just a curl. The word feels a little old and pretty. You hear it more in stories and in careful descriptions of hair than when someone is talking about a normal haircut.
