Rigatoni is a kind of Italian pasta: short, wide tubes, usually with ridges on the outside so sauce can hold on. The tubes are cut straight across, and they are fatter than penne, which is thinner and sliced on a slant. It is an ordinary food word, used on menus and in kitchens, not slang. The Italian name comes from rigato, “striped” or “,” with an ending that makes it sound like “the big ones.” In Taiwan the menu often keeps the Italian name; some people just say a kind of 管麵. It is not the city , and it is not rigging on a ship.
