    A rhododendron is a bush that keeps its green leaves all through winter. In spring it opens big, bright flowers — pink, purple, red, white — often in thick bunches. plant it for those flowers. Though actually the Greek name means 'rose tree', it is not a rose, and it is usually a bush, not a tall tree. Some kinds do grow very large. You see a lot of them in cool, wet mountain gardens. The old Greek word was also used for , a different plant with a bit of the same look; today's garden rhododendron got the name because scientists used it for this group of bushes.
