To rework something is to go back into it and make changes — a song, a piece of writing, a plan, a design — so it works better or fits a new use. A writer reworks a chapter; a band reworks an old song. The change can be small or quite big; it is more than swapping a few words (that would be ). Though actually, in factories rework is also a noun: the job of fixing goods that came out wrong. Neutral, a little more workshop than classroom: you rework material you already have, rather than throwing it away.
