    This is the adverb of reverent. If you do something reverently, you do it with deep respect, often quietly, as if the place or the person is special. People speak reverently in a temple; they hold a family photo reverently. Like reverent, it is a little more formal than respectfully, and it often carries a holy or very serious feeling. Though actually, it is not only for religion: you can listen reverently to an old story, or step reverently into a room where someone is sleeping.
