To retweet is to send on a message that someone else already posted on Twitter, so the people who follow you can see it too. You did not write the words; you are passing them along, with the first writer’s name still on them. People retweet news, jokes, and warnings when they want a bigger crowd to look. You can also use it as a noun: “That retweet made the story famous.” It is internet talk — fine with friends, a bit casual for a formal letter. Though actually, the company is now called X, but almost everyone still says tweet and retweet. Some people stretch retweet to mean “share this” on other apps; careful use keeps it for Twitter/X.
