    Retrieval is the act of getting something back, or finding it and bringing it out. It's used for physical things (the retrieval of a lost bag), and very often for information — data retrieval means a computer finding and pulling out the piece of information you asked for. It's also used for memory: memory retrieval is the process of pulling a memory back out when you need it.
