If a part of something is retractable, you can pull it back into the main body when you do not need it. A cat’s claws are retractable. Some pens have a retractable point. A plane’s wheels fold away after take-off — they are retractable too. A stadium may have a retractable roof that slides open. The word describes the part, not a person. Though actually, people stretch it a little to anything that tucks away on purpose. It is not the same as taking back something you said; that verb is retract (“he retracted the claim”). Retractable almost always means a physical thing that can be drawn in.
