A reticent person is unwilling to talk about their feelings or about what they know. They may speak about the weather or work, but they stop at the personal or the secret parts. Though actually, it is not the same as shy: a shy person may want to talk and find it hard; a reticent person often chooses not to. It is also not rude silence. Reticent people can be polite and kind; they just do not open up. Fairly formal. Friends might simply say, “She doesn’t talk about that.”
