A rescuer is the person — or sometimes a dog, a team, or a passing stranger — who saves someone from danger or harm: a fire, a flood, a collapsed building, a rip current. The verb is rescue; the rescuer is the one who does it. Firefighters, lifeguards, and mountain teams are rescuers by job. A neighbour who pulls a child from a drain is a rescuer for that moment. We also stretch it, half as a joke: a friend who calls and gets you out of an awkward dinner can be your rescuer. The word always points to a someone, not to the event itself — that event is the rescue.
