To remount is to get back onto a horse, a bicycle, a camel — anything you sit on to ride — after you have got off or fallen off. You were up, you came down, now you get up again. You will hear it around horses more than bikes; riders and older stories like it. With a bicycle, people more often just say get back on. It is not slang, and it is not stiff — it is the ordinary verb when the animal or the seat is in the picture. Though actually, English also stretches remount to other “put it back up” jobs, like fixing a photo onto new card, and older military talk used a remount for a fresh horse. Those sit nearby, but the first meaning to hold is the body one: climb on again.
