    Remorseful means full of that strong sorry: you feel, and often show, that you have done something very bad. A remorseful person may apologise, go quiet, or try to put things right. It is simply remorse + -ful. Courts and news reports like it: a remorseful defendant. Though actually, looking remorseful and being remorseful are not always the same — a sorry face can be a show. Still, in ordinary use we take it as a real feeling. The opposite idea is remorseless: no pity, no sorry. You are remorseful about something, or remorseful for what you did.
