    If someone reincarnates, they die and are then born again in another body. This is a teaching in , Buddhism, and some other beliefs: a person, or sometimes an animal, comes back to live a new life. English uses the word for that idea. You will often hear the passive: she was reincarnated as a bird. People also stretch it in jokes — “you must have been a cat in another life” — though actually careful speakers keep reincarnate for the spiritual idea, not for starting a job again or “getting a second chance.” The related noun is reincarnation (the idea or the new life). Reborn can sound Christian or poetic; reincarnate is the body-after-body word.
