The act of making something regular — and 'regular' here can mean two rather different things, which is why the word appears in unrelated places. The main sense is official: making a situation that has been going on unofficially, or outside the law, into something legal and proper. Countries talk about the regularization of undocumented migrants — giving papers to people who have lived and worked there for years without them. A city might announce the regularization of houses built without permission. Notice what the word quietly assumes: the situation already exists and is not going away, so the law is being adjusted to fit reality rather than the other way round. It is language, the vocabulary of forms and announcements, not of conversation. It also means making things follow one consistent pattern — regularization of working hours across all branches, or the regularization of spelling in a language. One more use you may meet if you read about computers: in machine learning, regularization means techniques that stop a model from fitting its training data too closely. Different world, same idea underneath — pulling something wild back toward a normal, well-behaved shape. On spelling: British writing often uses -isation (regularisation), American uses -ization. Both are correct; be consistent within one piece of writing. Taiwan's schools generally teach American spelling.
