Redneck is a US word, usually , for a white person from the countryside who is painted as and as holding hard, narrow opinions. People say it to show they look down on that person. It began as a picture of farmers whose necks turned red from the sun after long days in the fields. Though actually, that old job-picture is not what most speakers have in mind now. In films, jokes, and political talk it often means “rural, loud, conservative,” and sometimes it carries a charge of racism. Some country people have taken the word back and wear it as a badge. A should still not call anyone a redneck: from the outside it can sound like a cheap joke, and inside the US it can land as a class insult with a long, sore history. It is informal and rough, not a polite label.
組成A compound of red + neck. Farmers who worked long hours in the sun got a red, burned neck; the name started there.
