A redhead is a person whose hair is red or — often more orange or copper than the red of a fire engine. The word is informal and usually friendly. You can say someone is a redhead or that they have red hair; both are ordinary. Though actually, very few people have hair that is truly bright red, and we still call them redheads. Some like the word; a few do not, because jokes about red hair have been around a long time. British English also uses ginger for the same idea, which can sound sharper, depending on the voice. There is also a North American duck called a redhead, but the everyday meaning is the person.
