Redemption most often means the act of making up for something bad you did in the past, and becoming a good or respected person again — like a story of redemption, where someone changes for the better after making mistakes. In religion, it can mean being saved from sin. It can also be used in a much more everyday way, for exchanging something like a coupon or points for money or a prize (redemption of a gift card).
