Reclusive describes a person, or a way of living, that stays away from other people: someone who chooses to live alone and does not like seeing or talking to others. You can say a reclusive writer, a reclusive neighbour, a reclusive life. Same idea as recluse, but this form is an adjective, so it paints the person or the life rather than naming them. News and book reviews use it a lot. It is a little softer in tone than calling someone a recluse outright, though actually the facts it points to are often the same.
