Picture yourself standing on 'now' and reaching backwards along a line of days. You do not reach far — just a short arm's length behind you, into the days or weeks you can still remember without effort. Whatever your hand touches in that short reach is what 'recently' points at. That short backward reach can be held as the picture inside the word: the event is finished and behind you, but it is still close enough that it feels connected to today. That is also why 'recently' sits so naturally with 'I have...' (I have recently moved) — the past thing is still touching the present.
