A reaffirmation is when you state again, in a clear and often formal way, that you still hold an opinion, still believe something, or still mean to do something. People reach for it after a doubt, a shock, or a public question — when others have started to wonder, “Do they still stand by that?” A government may issue a reaffirmation of a peace deal; a party may give a reaffirmation of its old promise. Though actually, the noun sounds more official than the everyday verb: friends more often just reaffirm (“I still want to go with you”), while reaffirmation turns up in speeches, letters, and news. It is not a change of mind. It is the same position, put back on the table on purpose.
