Ready-to-wear clothes are made in standard sizes — S, M, L, and so on — so many people can buy the same design off a rail. Nobody measured you. The shop already has the dress. This is how almost all clothes in ordinary shops are made. Though actually, fashion people use ready-to-wear for a designer’s regular season clothes, as against clothes cut for one body only. On the high street nobody says the phrase; they just say clothes. You meet it in fashion writing, museum labels, and whenever someone wants to set standard sizes against tailor-made. It does not mean the clothes are easy to put on. It means they were made in advance, not sewn for one person.
「ready-to-wear」指依標準尺碼（S、M、L 等）做好的衣服，很多人都能從架上拿同一款來買，店家不用為你量身。一般店裡的衣服幾乎都是這樣做的。時尚圈也用這個詞來指設計師每季的系列服裝，與只為一個人剪裁的訂製服相對。
這個詞的重點是「事先做好」，不是「好穿」。在一般對話裡，大家通常直接說 clothes，這個詞多半出現在時尚報導、博物館說明，或需要區分成衣與訂製服的時候。常見的搭配是 「ready-to-wear clothes」，相對的是 「tailor-made」（量身訂做）。
