Rapprochement is when two countries, or two groups who have been cold or angry with each other, start to move closer again and be on better terms. It names the thaw after a stretch of relations — talks resume, the tone warms, a working relationship comes back. It is a and news word, almost always about groups, not about two making up after a fight (that you would just call making up). English borrowed the whole French word and did not change the spelling, so it still looks foreign on the page. You will rarely need it in everyday talk.
