Rangers is a Scottish football club in Glasgow, officially Rangers Football Club, often called Glasgow Rangers. They play in blue, at Ibrox. Fans also say the Gers or the Teddy Bears. Their supporters have long been mainly Protestant, and they have a deep rivalry with Celtic, the other great Glasgow club, whose supporters have long been mainly Catholic. In Glasgow this is not only sport: it touches religion, history, and identity, and it has sometimes turned ugly. Though actually, many fans today would say they are there for the team, not the church — the split is still felt, but it is messier than a tidy label. Always a capital R when you mean this club. The ordinary English word rangers — people who patrol a park or a forest — is a different use.
