Raillery is friendly joking that pokes at someone a little — teasing that is meant to be warm, not cruel. The people involved still like each other; the jokes sting only a tiny bit, and everyone is supposed to smile. It is a rather , old-fashioned word. In ordinary talk today, people say teasing or banter instead. You are more likely to meet raillery in novels, essays, or rather formal writing than in a classroom or a shop. It has nothing to do with railway tracks, even though it looks a little like rail.
