Réunion is an island in the western Indian Ocean, east of . It is not its own country: it belongs to France. People who live there are French citizens, they use the euro, and French is the official language, though many also speak Réunion Creole at home. The capital is Saint-Denis. A bit under a million people live there. Older books sometimes call it a 'dependency', which makes it sound like a leftover colony; though actually, France treats it as part of France itself, the way it treats a region in Europe — same passports, same many laws, just much farther away. The name looks like reunion (a meeting of people who have been apart). Same French source, different thing: one is a place, the other is a get-together.
留尼旺(島)。中國大陸寫作「留尼汪」。
組成From French Réunion. Doublet of reunion: the island name and the English word for a get-together grew from the same French word.
同家族的字
- reuniondoublet from the same French word; here Réunion is the island, not the meeting
