Queensland is a large state in the northeast of Australia. Its capital and biggest city is Brisbane. It grows sugar, raises sheep for wool, and digs up minerals, especially coal. Tourists come for the warm weather, the beaches of the Gold Coast, and the Great Barrier Reef off the coast. The name means “the Queen’s land.” It has nothing to do with Queens in New York — that is a different place on the other side of the world.
