Deep inside an atom there is a nucleus, and inside that there are and neutrons. Those are still not the end. Each and neutron is made of even smaller pieces called quarks. You will not meet a quark on its own in ordinary matter; they stay locked together in twos or threes. There are six kinds, with playful English names: up, down, charm, strange, top, and bottom. This is specialist physics talk, not everyday talk. An American , Murray Gell-Mann, made the word up in 1963. He later said he had a line from James Joyce in mind — “Three quarks for Muster Mark!” — and he pronounced it to sound like “”, as if someone in a pub were calling for three . Though actually, in the book the word is more like a bird’s harsh cry.
組成Coined in 1963 by Murray Gell-Mann, at first apparently as an invented word. He later tied it to Joyce’s “Three quarks for Muster Mark!” and said he said it /kwɔrk/, thinking of “three quarts”.
