QB is the short written form of quarterback. In American football (and Canadian football), the quarterback is the player who stands behind the line, takes the ball, and usually throws it, or hands it to someone who will run. Sports news, team lists, and video games all write QB. It is American sports English. A who only follows soccer may never need it, but in US sports talk it is everywhere. The “” is old football language for a position, not a coin, and not a British football word.
