Puppetry is the art of putting on a show with puppets. It is the skill, the tradition, and the kind of theatre — not one puppet, and not only the person who moves them. Glove puppets, string puppets, and shadow puppets all sit inside this word. You meet it in reviews, school arts class, and museum signs more than in daily chat. Though actually, English speakers use it for the whole craft: building the figures as well as performing with them. It is the art; a puppeteer is the artist.
