A pun is a joke that plays with words — usually because one word sounds like another word, or because a word has two different meanings, and the joke uses both meanings at once. For example, 'I used to be a baker, but I couldn't make enough dough' plays on 'dough' meaning both bread mixture and money. Puns are often seen as a little silly, and people sometimes groan even while they smile at a good one.
