A puma is a large wild cat of the Americas — the same animal English also calls a cougar or a mountain lion. It is , strong, and usually hunts alone. Scientists and many countries prefer puma; in the United States, cougar and mountain lion are what people actually say. It is not an African lion, and it is not a leopard or a jaguar, even though some American places loosely call a puma a “panther.” The German sports company PUMA took the name to suggest strength, speed, and grace. In everyday Taiwan talk you are as likely to meet the brand as the animal.

組成Borrowed from Spanish puma, from Quechua puma, from Proto-Quechuan *puma. It is a South American word that travelled through Spanish into English.
