A Pullman is a very comfortable railway carriage, or a whole train made of such carriages — historically the luxury kind, with proper seats or sleeping berths, far nicer than ordinary coaches. The name is an ellipsis of Pullman car, after the Pullman Palace Car Company, named for the American engineer George Pullman (1831–1897), who built famous sleeping cars in the 1800s. In Britain, Pullman trains were a branded premium service, with better food and better seats. You write it with a capital P because it is someone’s name, not a common noun. In ordinary talk now, people more often say , first class, or luxury coach, but in railway history and older writing Pullman is the word. Though actually, some speakers also know a Pullman — square sandwich bread baked in a tin — named from the same cars; that is a different use, not the train itself.
