PTSD is the short form of post-traumatic stress disorder. After a very or violent event — war, a crash, an attack, a disaster — some people keep living it in their minds: bad dreams, sudden fear, feeling on guard, staying away from anything that brings it back. It is a real illness with a name, not ‘just being weak’ and not the same as a hard, stressful week. In English the letters are what people say, even in many clinics. It is not the same as being , though a very bad spell can look confusing from the outside. The trouble starts after a deep shock and can last a long time without help.
