Psychometric describes tools that try to measure the mind with numbers: how well you reason, how you feel, what you are like at work. A psychometric test is not a school exam about facts in a book. It is a designed set of questions or tasks, and people treat the score as a picture of ability or personality. Companies use these tests when they hire; psychologists use them in research. The word is formal — science and HR, not chatting with friends. Though actually, a quiz in a magazine is not automatically psychometric; a serious tool has been checked so the numbers mean something stable. People sometimes stretch the word to any “clever” personality quiz. As a noun, psychometrics is the science of making those measurements.
