1. 1

To treat someone using psychoanalysis — that long talking treatment that tries to find hidden causes in a person's life and feelings. In a clinic it is serious, trained work, often over months or years. Though actually, in ordinary conversation people stretch it a long way. “Don't psychoanalyze me” usually does not mean “do not give me Freudian treatment.” It means “stop digging for secret reasons; I already told you why.” That everyday use is a bit sharp, and it is much more common than the medical use. American spelling is psychoanalyze; British spelling is often psychoanalyse.
