Psoriasis is a long-term skin condition. Patches of skin become red, dry, and rough, and tiny pieces can flake off. It often shows on the elbows, knees, or scalp, though it can appear in other places too. You cannot catch it from another person — it is not an infection. In those spots the skin is growing too fast. It can come and go: some weeks look almost clear, then a flare-up arrives. Cold dry air, stress, a cut, or some medicines can make it worse. Doctors cannot usually wipe it away for good, but creams and other treatments can calm it. People with psoriasis sometimes feel ; it helps to know it is medical, not dirty.
組成From Greek. The first part, psora, meant “itch.” The ending -sis is used in medical words for a condition. So the word is built as “an itching condition,” though actually psoriasis is more about fast-growing, flaky skin than a simple itch.
