A Prussian is someone from , that old German state. You can also put Prussian in front of a noun: a Prussian officer, Prussian land, the Prussian army. In Britain, people still reach for the word as a picture of a person: very proud, very military, back straight, rules first. “Prussian discipline” means hard, exact order, not kindness. That picture is a type the British have of “the typical Prussian,” and it lived on after the state itself died. Though actually, nobody holds a Prussian passport today, because is gone. History books still need the word. It is built in the ordinary way: + -an, “of that place.” It is not a spelling of Russian, and it is not a person from Russia.
