If you look, ask, or write pruriently, you do it in a prurient way: with too much interest in sex, and with that greedy, peeking flavour other people dislike. The paper wrote pruriently about her private life. The camera lingered pruriently. It is the adverb from prurient, so it tells you HOW something is done, not WHAT a person is. You will meet it in the same bookish places as prurient — reviews, complaints about the press — not in ordinary chat. Do not try to use prurient as an adverb; English wants pruriently there. Same warning as the adjective: this is a judging word, never a compliment, and it is not a cousin of prudishly. Prudishly is how you act when you are too shocked. Pruriently is how you act when you are too interested.
