Profiteering is making a profit in a way people judge as unfair — especially by selling scarce things at very high prices when others cannot easily say no. After a typhoon or a war, if someone triples the price of water, batteries, or masks, that is the picture. The word is an attack word: it says the seller is taking advantage. Though actually, ordinary profit is not profiteering. Shops are allowed to make money. The sting is the unfair size, and the trapped customer. You will hear it in news, , and angry talk about shortages. It is not a compliment, and it is not a calm business term like profitability.
組成profit + -eer + -ing. A -eer person is someone who does that thing; a profiteer makes money in a greedy, unfair way. Profiteering is that action.
