Processed food has been changed in a factory before you buy it. Things may be added so it lasts longer, looks brighter, tastes stronger, or is quicker to cook. A tin of soup, sliced bread that stays soft for days, bright orange cheese slices — those are processed. A banana from the market is not. Though actually, the word slides. Frozen peas are processed too: washed and frozen, nothing more. In daily talk, people often say “processed” when they mean highly processed — lots of extra sugar, salt, or strange ingredients — and they say it with a slight . On a food label it is an ordinary describing word, not a lab word.
