A pro-am is a competition, especially in golf, for professionals (people who play for money) and amateurs (people who play for pleasure). Very often a pro and an amateur play as a pair, and the day may raise money for charity.
A pro-am是 a competition一種比賽,especially in golf特別是在高爾夫,for professionals讓職業選手(people who play for money靠打球賺錢的人)and amateurs和業餘選手(people who play for pleasure為樂趣打球的人)參加。Very often很常見的是 a pro and an amateur一位職業和一位業餘 as a pair組成一對 play出賽,and the day而這一天 may可能 for charity為慈善 raise money募款。
You see Pro-Am on posters and in sports news; the word is informal in a sporty way, not a classroom word. It can name the event (we played in the pro-am) or describe it (a pro-am tournament).
You你 on posters and in sports news會在海報和體育新聞上 see看到 Pro-Am;the word這個詞 is informal in a sporty way是運動圈那種輕鬆的用語,not a classroom word不是課堂上的詞。It它 can name可以指 the event這個賽事(we played in the pro-am我們打了配對賽),or describe it也可以拿來形容(a pro-am tournament一場職業業餘配對賽)。
Though actually, other sports borrow it too — tennis, cycling, — but golf still owns it in most people's mouths. It is not 'professional American,' and it is not a person: a player is a pro or an amateur; the pro-am is the meeting of the two.
Though actually不過其實,other sports其他運動 too也 borrow it借用它——tennis網球、cycling自行車、snooker斯諾克撞球——but但 in most people's mouths在大多數人嘴裡,golf高爾夫 still owns it仍然是它的主人。It它 is not不是 'professional American'「職業美國人」,and it is not a person也不是指人:a player一位球員 is是 a pro or an amateur職業或業餘選手;the pro-am is則是 the meeting of the two這兩種人的相遇。
組成A contraction of professional and amateur: pro- + am.
