1. 1

In the old Greek stories of Troy, Priam is the king. He is not the young hero of the war. He is the old father of the city: Hector, the great fighter, is his son, and Paris, the son who took Helen and started the long trouble, is his son too. The stories often show Priam as a man who has to watch his children and his city be destroyed. One famous scene is Priam going to the enemy, Achilles, to beg for Hector's dead body so he can bury his son. When Troy finally falls, Priam is killed. This is a name from myth, not a word you use in ordinary life for a kind of person. You will meet it in of the War, in poems, and in history of old stories — not in shop talk or news about living kings.
