A Presbyterian is a member of a Protestant church run by elders (presbyters), not by bishops. It is one of the large Protestant families in the United States, and the Church of Scotland is Presbyterian — the national church there. As an adjective: a Presbyterian church, Presbyterian worship. The name is about how the church is governed: a council of elders, not one bishop at the top, and not each congregation standing fully alone. In Taiwan this is not a rare foreign label; 長老教會 is a major church here, with a long local history. Though actually “Presbyterian” is not the same as “Protestant” (many Protestant churches are not Presbyterian), and it is not the same as Pentecostal, which students sometimes mix up because both are long church words starting with P. Beliefs overlap with other Reformed churches; the distinctive piece in the name is government by elders.
