A premeditated crime or attack was thought about and planned before it happened, then done on purpose. It is a strong, serious word, almost always at home in police reports, courts, and news. Judges care about it because a planned harm is treated as worse than a sudden fight in anger. You will hear premeditated murder, a premeditated assault. People sometimes stretch it to a cold, planned insult, but that is less common and a bit dramatic. It is the opposite of “in the heat of the moment.” If something was premeditated, the person had time to stop, and did not.
