In young people’s party talk, to preload is to drink alcohol at home — or somewhere cheap — before you go out to a bar or club. It is another word for . The idea is usually to get a bit drunk without paying bar prices. It is informal, slightly cheeky, and mostly a youth word: you would not use it in class, at work, or with someone’s . Though actually, preload has a much more common life in computers and engineering, where it means to load something in advance. This drinking sense simply borrowed the same shape. As a noun, a preload can mean those drinks you have before you leave.
