Precooked food has already been cooked, partly or all the way, before you buy it, so you can heat it fast later. This is the form you actually see on packets. A precooked chicken in the supermarket is ready after a few minutes in the microwave; precooked prawns may only need thawing. Though actually, precooked is not the same as raw, and it is not always the same as ready-to-eat. Some precooked food still needs thorough heating to be safe, and the packet will say so. In Taiwan you meet the idea constantly in convenience-store meals, though the English word itself is more at home on imported labels and in recipes.
