A pre-roll is a short advertisement that plays before the video you actually opened. On YouTube and many other sites, the pre-roll comes first, and only then does the real video start. Some you can skip after a few seconds; some you cannot. People who buy ads like pre-rolls because almost everyone who clicks the video will see them, at least for a moment. The word belongs to internet video, not to old newspapers. Though actually, the same spelling can mean a cigarette already rolled before you buy it — but this entry is only the ad that comes first.
前貼廣告、片頭廣告(影片開始前先播的那則;口語也常直接說 preroll)
組成pre- (before) + roll (the video starts to roll, like film). The ad comes before the film rolls.
