Pravda is the name of a famous Russian newspaper. For most of the Soviet years it was the official paper of the Communist Party, so what it printed was not only news; it was the Party’s public voice. The name itself is the Russian word for “truth,” which is a sharp little fact — because many readers, then and later, felt the paper mixed reporting with the government’s story. After the Soviet Union ended, the name lived on in more than one paper and website; when English speakers say “Pravda” they usually mean the old Soviet paper, or they use it as a shorthand for state news that claims to tell the truth. It is a proper name, so you capitalise it. In English it is a cultural reference more than a paper most students will ever hold.
