Prague is the capital city of the Czech Republic, in the middle of Europe. It is an important industrial centre, but what most visitors remember is the old town: bridges, towers, churches, and a castle on a hill, all packed close together along a river. Many tourists go there, so in English the name often arrives with “beautiful” and “old” beside it. English speakers say Prague; Czech speakers say Praha. Same city, two names that grew from the same Slavic root, one of them coming into English through German Prag. You write it with a capital P, like any place name. Though actually, people sometimes talk as if Prague were only a postcard. It is also a working city with factories, offices, and everyday life, not a museum that shuts at five.
