A potterer is a person who potters: someone who spends time on pleasant little jobs that are not urgent, without hurrying. They tidy a drawer, water plants, fiddle in the shed, wander from task to task. The word is British and rather fond; it can sound gently teasing, not cruel — “He’s a bit of a potterer.” You would not put it in a job title. Though actually, this potterer is not a potter who makes cups and bowls. That potter is a different word that just happens to look the same. A potterer is about pace and mood: slow, homely, not chasing a big result. The activity itself is to potter (often potter about or potter around).
